Fiction Reading Now Cool Again

with one comment

Sonika and I can only take partial credit for this, but the NEA is reporting that a 25-year trend of declining fiction reading has reversed.

The NYT says:

The report, “Reading on the Rise: A New Chapter in American Literacy,” being released Monday, is based on data from “The Survey of Public Participation in the Arts” conducted by the United States Census Bureau in 2008. Among its chief findings is that for the first time since 1982, when the bureau began collecting such data, the proportion of adults 18 and older who said they had read at least one novel, shortstory, poem or play in the previous 12 months has risen.

Kudos to all of those reading adults out there.  I’d write more, but I’ve got to get back to my book.

  1. Glad to know I haven’t been devouring fiction FOR NOTHING. Oh my, I’ve got to go, more books to eat. I mean, read.
